What You Should Know About Phishing
What Is Phishing?
Phishing involves the falsifying act of claiming to be an established legitimate enterprise in an attempt to scam the user into surrendering private information that will be used for identity theft. It involves the redirection of the unknowing user to visit a bogus website masquerading as the legitimate operator where users are then asked to update sensitive information, such as IDs, passwords and credit card numbers that the legitimate organization already has. The bogus site, however, is set up only to steal user´s information.
How Does Phishing Takes Place?
Not limiting to the following, they commonly take the form of:
- E-mails misleading you into entering the bogus web sites through embedded hyperlinks.
- Fake or similar domain names to appear as O-Sync.
For example, you may happen to receive an email claiming to be from O-Sync requesting you to follow a hyperlink within the email to update your sensitive information for some reasons. When you do so, you will be redirected to the bogus web site that may look exactly the same as ours, where you would be asked for your sensitive information.
As a matter of security, you will never receive an email from O-Sync requesting you to update your personal information for whatever reasons.
